Online Guitar Tuner
Tune your guitar right in the browser. Press Start, play a string, and match it to pitch — or tap a string to hear its reference tone and tune by ear. Standard, Drop D, half-step down, Open G and DADGAD.
Press Start and allow the microphone, or tap a string to hear its pitch.
How to tune a guitar
An online guitar tuner listens to each string through your microphone and tells you whether it is sharp or flat. Press Start, allow mic access, and pluck one string at a time. The big note shows which string you are nearest; the needle and the cents number show how far off you are. Tighten the string to raise the pitch, loosen it to lower it, until the reading sits at zero and turns green. No microphone? Tap any string on screen to hear its reference tone and match it by ear.
Standard tuning and beyond
Standard guitar tuning, low to high, is E A D G B E (E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4). This tuner defaults to standard and includes the tunings guitarists reach for most:
- Drop D (D A D G B E) — just the low string down a whole step, for heavier riffs.
- Half step down (E♭ A♭ D♭ G♭ B♭ E♭) — everything a semitone lower, easier on the voice and the strings.
- Open G (D G D G B D) — the open strings form a G chord, great for slide.
- DADGAD — a modal tuning loved for folk and fingerstyle.
Accurate and private
Pitch detection runs entirely on your device with the same autocorrelation engine as our chromatic tuner — nothing is uploaded. Tuning fresh strings? They will drift as they settle, so re-check after playing for a few minutes. When you want a tuner in your pocket, the free Tuner: Guitar, Violin & Bass app does the same on iOS. Also tuning a bass, ukulele, or violin? We have a tuner for each. Once you’re in tune, map any scale across the neck with the guitar scales fretboard.
Frequently asked questions
How do I tune my guitar online?
Press Start and allow microphone access, then pluck one string at a time. The tuner shows the nearest note and whether you are sharp or flat in cents; tighten or loosen the string until it reads zero and turns green. You can also tap a string on screen to hear its reference pitch and tune by ear.
What is standard guitar tuning?
Standard guitar tuning is E A D G B E, from the thickest (lowest) string to the thinnest (highest): low E2, A2, D3, G3, B3 and high E4. This tuner defaults to standard and also offers Drop D, half-step down, Open G and DADGAD.
How do I tune to Drop D?
Choose the Drop D tuning from the menu, which lowers only the lowest string from E to D — giving D A D G B E. Play the low string and lower its pitch until the tuner reads D2 in tune.
Does the guitar tuner use my microphone?
Yes. It listens through your device's microphone and analyzes the pitch entirely on your device — no audio is uploaded or stored. If you prefer, you can tune by ear using the on-screen reference tones without the microphone.
Is the online guitar tuner free?
Yes, completely free with no signup and no ads. For tuning on the go, the MusePulse Tuner app for iOS does the same thing in your pocket.
Prefer a tuner in your pocket?
